Deborah Sams and Mary Lou Ryan founded BASSIKE (pronounced ābasicā) in 2006 to create what they couldnāt find: high quality, sustainably sourced wardrobe essentials. They chose to work with organic cotton, Australian makers and responsible business practices from the beginning.Ā
The pair designed the first collections from a 1950s cottage on Sydneyās palm beach, and BASSIKE has the ease and vitality of Australian beach life in its DNA. The debut collection was a considered edit of luxurious, organic cotton jersey t-shirts and pants that instantly connected with wearers in search of contemporary designs with the versatility to work within their existing wardrobes.
BASSIKE added denim in 2007 and mainline womenās and menās seasonal collections in 2008, which span tailoring, outerwear, knitwear and fleece in contemporary silhouettes and natural fabrications. As the brand has evolved to include swimwear, footwear, accessories and a mini line, it has maintained the fundamentals of considered design, responsible business and sustainable manufacturing.
BASSIKE has nine stores across New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria in Australia, a digital flagship that ships globally and is proudly represented in more than 80 retailers worldwide. The brand remains headquartered on Sydneyās Northern Beaches, a natural environment rich in surf culture which helped inspire its mission.
